In 1851, a Louisiana physician diagnosed enslaved people's escape attempts as a mental illness — drapetomania, "the disease causing slaves to run away." He missed what he was actually describing: clarity. This shirt reclaims the term. Ornate, antebellum-style script meets the diagnosis itself, stamped below in red: delirious from a disease called freedom.
